No fewer than 200 farmers have received free agricultural inputs from the Agro-Processing, Productivity Enhancement and Livelihood Improvement Support (APPEALS) in Zakirai, Gabasawa Local Government Area of Kano State.

Speaking during the take-off of the programme, the State Coordinator of the APPEALS project, Malam Hassan Ibrahim, said the intervention was part of the adoption of improved production technology among rice and tomato farmers in the state for the 2021 wet farming season.

He said 20 groups of farmers benefited from the intervention, where each of them received 80 bags of NPK, 40 bags of Urea, 1000kg of improved Faro44 rice seed, 80 litres of agro chemicals, five units of water pump, threshers, tricycles and land preparation of 20 hectares.

According to him, the APPEALS project, which is a tripartite agreement between the federal government, Kano State and World Bank, was committed not only to enhancing production among farmers, but also in processing and marketing the products to attract income.

The APPEALS National Coordinator, Alhaji Mohammed Sani Jobdi, said the project was committed to eradicating poverty and boosting production among local farmers, including youth and women.

Speaking on behalf of the farmers, chairman of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) Kano State chapter, Zubairu Ibrahim, thanked APPEALS for the intervention and called on the farmers to make the best use of the opportunity and warned them against selling the agricultural inputs.
