Preparations are in full swing for Chief Mrs. Grace Ihonvbere’s 60th birthday invitational tournament, set to take place this week at the IBB International Golf and Country Club, Abuja.

The tournament festivities started with a caddies’ competition on Monday, which will be followed by veterans, super veterans, and professionals’ contests on Friday.

The highlight event on Saturday will feature Men’s Divisions 1 and 2 (handicaps 0-20) and Ladies’ Divisions 1 and 2 (handicaps 0-28) competing for the prestigious birthday trophy.

Chief Mrs. Grace Ihonvbere, a past Lady Captain of IBB International Golf and Country Club, shared her excitement: “I started playing golf about 15 years ago and developed a strong passion for it. Because of the numerous benefits the game offers, I dedicate a significant amount of time, energy, and resources to it. This is my way of promoting the game, building sporting relationships, and showing appreciation for the goodwill and support I have received over the years,” she stated.

As the wife of Prof. Julius Ihonvbere, Leader of the House of Representatives, she reflected on her journey and expressed fulfillment in reaching this milestone.

With the course prepared to welcome top players, she added, “Many more players expressed interest in participating, but we decided to limit the number to just 200 to avoid overcrowding the course. Honestly, I wish we could accommodate more. However, for those competing on Saturday, I wish them a great day on the course,” she concluded.

His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, PhD, Speaker of the House of Representatives, is expected to perform the ceremonial tee-off on Friday.
