The Citizenship and Leadership Training Centre in collaboration with Amzik Integrated Nigeria Ltd has trained 200 Ekiti youths on agricultural value chain, barbing and hairdressing, over the weekend.

No fewer than 100 of the youths were selected for the agricultural value chains development across crop and livestock subsectors. The crop value chain focused on maize and cassava while fish and poultry in the livestock industry.

The Director-General, Citizenship and Leadership Training Centre, Mr Jonah Bawa, said the human development and capacity building programme for unemployed youths could not have come at a better time considering that the country has a large army of young people who are bubbling with energy and vitality and need to channel that resource into productive ventures.

“As you are aware, the youths in Nigeria make up about 60% of the population and about 45% of the economically active population. It presupposes therefore that where the energy and vitality embedded in them is not properly managed and positively channelled, the resources could be misused and misdirected. The consequences of such are best imagined,” he said.

Dr Ahmed A. Zik-Rullahi, the Chief Executive Officer of the Amzik Integrated Nigeria, thanked the Federal Ministry of Youths and Sports through the Citizenship and Leadership Training Centre for considering the firm worthy to provide mentorship to the youths in the area.

He called on the participants to step-down the training and knowledge gained to others and also appealed to the youths to use the grants given to them to promote their various businesses.

Dr Zik-Rullahi expressed gratitude to honourable Adekola Segun Alexander for empowering the youths despite not been in government and challenged other well-meaning Nigerians to emulate him.

Also speaking, Adekola Segun Alexander, who sponsored the youths capacity-building programme, said it was designed to help the young people develop the skills needed to survive economically and become breadwinners in their homes.
