The Northeast Commodity Association (NECAS), has relocated 2,000 Borno farmers in clusters to safe locations in Yobe State for improve agricultural production in the North-East region.

The national chairman of NECAS, Alhaji Sadiq Umar Jaware, disclosed this during the flagging off of 100 tractors for distribution to farmer across 17 local government areas of Yobe State.

The chairman, represented by the National Secretary, Ahmed Muhammed Duku, noted that the gesture was to avail the Internally Displaced farmers an opportunity to cultivate on Yobe soil for self-reliance and improved food security in the sub-region.

He regretted that the North-East region had always been shortchanged in previous agricultural policies, which prompted them to form the association so as to encourage mechanised farming.

“We are distributing 600 tractors in the North-East sub-region. As one of the critical states for NECAS, we are flagging off the distribution of 100 brand new tractors in Yobe to improve mechanization activities in farming,” he explained.

Flagging off the distribution, Governor Mai Mala Buni, advised people to embraced mechanised farming to revive the economy of states devastated by Boko Haram insurgency.

He said that no nation can be said to be secured until it can feed its people, assuring that the state will partner relevant government and non-governmental organisations to improve agriculture in the state.
