 A total of 2000 girls in Jigawa State between the ages of 13 to 17 have received training to building their capacity in civic education, conflict management and vocational activities, the commissioner for Women Affairs, Ladi Ibrahim, has said.
The commissioner, who spoke over the weekend in Dutse, said that the first batch of 450 girls received their training in 2013 while another batch of 1,350 received similar training last year under the Mobilization for Development (M4D) programme.
 She added that the present administration was committed to improving women entrepreneurship by introducing a micro-credit scheme specifically for women, adding that the scheme was introduced to boost goat rearing.
 The commissioner further explained that the state had it gender policy in place named the Jigawa State Gender Policy, since 2013. She said the policy recognized women’s tasks in family building and upbringing of children.
 “Currently, another set of 1,350 girls from selected three local government areas – Mallam Madori, Miga and Ringim – will graduate making the total number of girl child fully trained and empowered by the said organisation (M4D) to 1800,” she stated.
Speaking on behalf of the M4D, Aisha Aminu, said her organisation was presently training 450 girls on life skills while another 825 trainees were expected to commence theirs soon.
