No fewer than 2,000 people with eye ailments across the 21 local government areas of Kebbi State have benefited from the eye surgeries sponsored by the First City Monument Bank (FCMB) in partnership with Tulsi Chanrai Foundation.

While speaking at the 14th edition of the eye surgeries event tagged ‘Priceless Gift of Sight’ in Birnin Kebbi, the bank’s group head, corporate affairs, Diran Olojo, represented by Omoniyi Iyanda in the sustainability department of the intervention said the eye surgeries initiative is a Corporate Social Responsibility embarked upon by the FCMB in partnership with Tulsi Chanrai in 2009.

He said more than 350,000 Nigerians in Cross River, Ogun, Kebbi Imo, Abuja, Katsina and Adamawa had benefitted from free eye testing, optical services, surgeries free glasses and eye disease management through the initiative.

“Over 20,000 visually impaired Nigerians had successfully undergone free corrective surgeries. Their power of sight was restored,” he said.

Speaking earlier, the programme manager of Tulsi Chanrai, Chandarkne Deshpande, said the foundation in its 20 years of operation in Kebbi State had treated 45,000 people with eye ailments. He said the foundation enjoyed support from the Kebbi State government and the state Ministry of Health to achieve its objectives.
