The National Drug Law enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in the FCT Command, seized more than a combined 2,000kg of cannabis, cocaine and other illicit drugs in October.

That’s the equivalent of 40 50kg bags of rice.

NDLEA commander in the FCT Chinyere Obijuru said the bust was possible because of intensified fight against drug trafficking in and around the FCT.

Much of the stash was seized around Abaji, an area council connecting the FCT and neighbouring Kogi state.

Nearly 1,800 kilos of Indian hemp was concealed in a compartment on a truck at Abaji in late October as it head from Edo to Yola.

A second suspect was arrested with cocaine worth N2 million in Abaji, which officials believe he was smuggling into the FCT.

Officials also arrested two men each with 49kilos of Indian hemp on the same route.

And separate work with the Nigerian Army Brigade of Guards led to the interception of a Toyota carrying 16 bags of Indian hemp, each weight more than three 50-kg bags of rice in late October.

Raids have led to the seizure of cartons and bottles of cough syrup with codeine and tramadol.
