A change, they all conclude, must take place for the state to realize its potentials. This change, they also opine, must begin with the transfer of baton from the ANPP, which was saddled with the leadership of the state since 1999 to the PDP which thrice allowed electoral victory slip through its fingers.
Where there is divergence of opinion is on who leads the PDP to victory. On one hand there are those who believe Alhaji Adamu Maina Waziri, Minister of Police Affairs and a veteran political war horse who was there at the party’s formation and has kept it growing from strength to strength despite the onslaught on it by the ANPP, should lead the charge. On the other hand, you have those (though in the minority) rooting for Senator Usman Albishir. Albishir is a two time senator who cross-carpeted to the PDP after being muscled out of the ANPP, a party he co-founded.
What Yobe needs now are men and women of goodwill who are patriotic enough to come together, weigh aspirants objectively and go for the best among the better.
Agreed, Albishir was short-changed by his former soul mates, but people like him
Who also love Yobe should join hands with those he found on ground to wrest power for the PDP for the benefit of Yobe. The Albishir I know is not a desperate power monger and abhors a divided house, just as he does not want controversies. I believe the people of Yobe will soon see, despite prodding by self-serving associates, a Senator Usman Albishir as Chief Mobiliser for Adamu Maina Waziri in a strong campaign drive to save Yobe.
