The new M still has roughly the same dimensions and weight as its previous model. While a BMW relies on valvetronic technology, the ‘M’ does the same but with a larger engine capacity than have turbo boosters- which is why it’s a M37 and M56 instead of the old M35 and M45. At the end, these engines have gained more power and torque for the M series.

It now has seven speed transmission and a better fuel economy than the previous model. Both the V6 and V8 come with and all wheel drive system. From the pictures of the interior, it does have lots of bottons on the console but they are not intimidating. Automobile magazine editor, Jason Cammisa, had a chance to test one. He mentioned the ‘M’ series being generous in luggage compartment and interior space. He also said the seats were supportive and the version he tested came with a touring package- obviously that is to make long travels comfortable. Unlike many other premium cars, the interior still remains noisier than expected and impact noise still comes through loud and clear- something that has always been peculiar to Japanese cars. He also mentioned wind noise on the front (A-pillars) of the car-so the touring package has got its work cut out.

In making my choice I would have gone for the M37 believing the V6 would have sufficient power and be an easier choice, but Jason said it was one problem with the vibration coming from the V6. It lacked smooth running and fell below standard compared to other V6s.  It may be a crank shaft design but we don’t know yet. So the V8 would be better if you could deal with the V6.

On the whole, the infinite is better than the old one but will do better than the BMW 5 series or the E-class? We reckon it won’t. But who knows?
