The materials were presented to the victims by NEMA Head of Operations in Charge of Bauchi, Gombe and Taraba states, Mr. Apollo Jediel, in Gamawa.
The Senator Representing Bauchi North Senatorial District, Senator Babayo Garba Gamawa, commended the federal government for donating the relief materials to the victims.
The flood, which occurred during the last rainy season, destroyed many houses and items worth millions of naira.
Gamawa said the gesture by the federal government would alleviate the sufferings of the people in his constituency especially those affected by the flood disaster, saying that such relief materials was not intended to compensate the victims but to offer them assistance.
He explained that considering the sorry  situation of his people after the disaster, he forwarded a formal request to the federal government to come to the aid of the victims spread across the local governments under his senatorial district.
He disclosed that securing relief materials from the federal government was the first of its kind by any elected senator in the area and assured that all the items donated would be judiciously shared with fairness, saying that a seven-man committee was set up to ensure fair distribution of the items.
Earlier, Jediel said the items were donated to the people of the area as a result of complaints raised by the senator in which the federal government approved the donation of such materials to cushion their difficulties.
He listed the items donated to the people of Bauchi North Senatorial District to include 702 bags of rice, 600 bags of millet, 110 bags of sugar, 1200 blankets, 700 mattresses, 500 rubber buckets, 500 bundles of roofing sheets and 600 bags of cement.
