At a press briefing in Lagos, Chief Executive Officer of the organisers, Africa Times Network (ATN), Augustine Phiri, said the emergence of the new queen will strictly be determined by credibility.
“This year’s event is aimed at celebrating the African cultural heritage and crowning the queen who can represent Nigeria in the world. We want to make sure that the scrutiny is properly done to avoid insinuations and suggestions. It is a process that will be based on credibility and transparency,” Phiri said.
Another organiser, Salomey Eferem of the Daar Communications said although there are many beauty contests in the country, this year’s programme aims to create a platform where the queen can have access to the President, national events and the Nigerian community and Africa at large.
“However, the contest has been re- branded because it’s not restricted to Nigeria alone. We are globalising it by giving opportunity to Nigerians in the Diaspora to come in. This in part means that ‘Miss Nigeria’ is now open to persons outside the country but of Nigerian descents,” Eferem said.
The contest Creative Director, Elohor Aisien said the winner will emerge after a “rigorous and nerve-racking exercises.
“We are not just looking for pretty girls but, we are also looking for the queen that can be the future President or Ambassador of Nigeria and we are proud to announce that the 21 girls we have now are very smart, intelligent and can be Nigeria future queen,” Aisien said.
The winner is expected to go home with the sum of N3 million, a car, a trip to California, courtesy of Mud Cosmetics, a year’s accidental cover from Equity Assurance and a year’s clothing from Vlisco while the second and third prizes include a double door refrigerator, a 42 LG television with a free ticket to a destination respectively.
