Former President of the Senate in the truncated Third Republic, Senator Ameh Ebute says President Goodluck Jonathan under normal circumstances should be the automatic candidate for the 2015 presidential elections.

He made the remarks today in Abuja at the inauguration of the national executives of the Nigerian Youth Project for Goodluck 2015.

Ebute said it was unfortunate that in Nigeria, political decorum and respect for the office of the president have been thrown overboard which is extremely wrong. According to him, the struggle by the majority groups for power in Nigeria is what has made Goodluck Jonathan and 2015 a big issue.

“There are two schools of thoughts on 2015. We of the ‘Jonathan-must-contest 2015’ feel that Nigeria has come of age.
Jonathan’s fundamental and constitutional rights as a Nigerian must be respected. He has done well so far to deserve a second term in office.

The second school of thought on the other hand has offered no cogent reasons for their ‘Jonathan-must-not-contest-2015’ argument. The president should not give any attention to these people. He should rather concentrate on his transformation agenda and declare his intentions come 2015” Ebute said.

In his remarks, Director-General of the Nigerian Youth Project for Goodluck 2015, Comrade Okorodas Ken Ebibenabo said the NYP’s call for Jonathan to re-contest in 2015 is predicated upon his performance and ability to transform the country.
