51 years after, Kano celebrates coronation of a new Emir

The last time a coronation of an Emir took place in Kano was 51 years ago, when the late Alhaji Ado Bayero succeeded his predecessor Malalm Muhammad Inuwa as the Emir of the ancient Kano Emirate.
In February this year, millions of people from within and outside Kano and Nigeria exhibited ecstasy and joy at the experience of witnessing another history-making coronation of a new Emir, Malam Muhammad Sanusi II.
Emir Sanusi ascended the throne at Gidan Rumfa, the Kano Palace last in June last year following the death of Alhaji Ado Bayero, a charismatic Emir that reigned for 50 years.
But the inauguration was put on hold by the Kano state government until a magnificent Coronation Hall was built at the premises of the state government house mainly for the purpose.
The Coronation of Sanusi II was indeed an outstanding spectacle that had brought activities in Kano to a standstill as residents trooped to watch the ceremony which was kicked off by the Chief Imam of Kano, Professor Sani Zahraddeen amidst chants of Allahu Akbar followed by 21 gunshots.

Emir Sanusi restores Durbar after four years

It was at the last Eid-el Fitr celebration that the Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II restored the colourful traditional durbar or horse procession which had been suspended by the Emirate Council for four years.
The durbar celebrations were previously shelved by the late Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero because of the insecurity situation that had been experienced in the state since 2012.
But Sanusi II, who succeeded Bayero following his demise in June 2014 re-introduced the horse procession during the last Eidl-Fitr celebration, which attracted a mammoth crowd of spectators who had waited for years to witness the event once again.
The series of durbars—the Hawan Sallah, Hawan Daushe, Hawan Nasarawa
and Hawan Dorayi were all held amidst tight security and in spite of heavy downpours.
But contrary to the previous arrangement when the officials of the Emirate Council announced the routes that would be followed by the Emir, this time around the Emir’s movement shrouded in secrecy because of security concerns.

Bride Kills husband three days after wedding

It was in March that residents of Darmanawa quarters of Tarauni local government area woke up to a bizarre incident when a bride stabbed and killed her husband just three days after her marriage to the deceased.
Kano Chronicle reported that the 18-year-old bride Rahma Hussaini allegedly stabbed her hubby Tijjani Bashir while he was asleep.
A witness Malam Sani Mai Almajirai said he was sitting in front of his house when he saw a friend broke the sad news to him, adding that he quickly rushed to the house of the deceased whom he saw holding his bleeding stomach in pains.
It was reported that Bashir gave up the ghost shortly after he was taken to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital where he was attended by seven doctors. As for the bride, she had been handed over to the police who in turn charged her to court.
The tragic incident will not be forgotten in Kano in a hurry.
 
Bride killed 12 days after wedding

A 17-year-old bride, Aisha Isa Fagge was killed by suspected rapists just 12 days after her wedding in her matrimonial home at Ja’en area of Sharada quarters.
On the fateful day, in August this year, the husband of the deceased Nura Muhammad had spoken to his bride at 10am only to return home and found her dead at about 1pm.
Muhammad said when he returned home knocked the gate of his house several times without getting any response.
 Later, he said he was assisted by one Rabiu Abdulkadir, to force the gate open and just as he entered his room, he saw his wife lying dead with her hands tied with ropes.
However, while the police insisted that late Aisha was raped before she was murdered, her family maintained that there was no sign of rape on her when she was found.
The incident had shook residents of the area to their skins because the assailants stormed the house and perpetrated the act in broad daylight.

Ali Nuhu, Adam Zango’s feud raises dust in Kannywood

Ali Nuhu and Adam Zango, who are top Kannywood actors and entertainment gladiators, had a feud that caused a serious fuss among stakeholders in the Hausa movie industry.
It could be recalled that the relationship between Nuhu and Zango hit the rocks following allegation of a sex scandal raised by their female colleague, Rahma Sadau sometimes in February this year. Sadau had accused Zango of seeking sexual favours from her in return for giving her a role in his movie, Duniya Makaranta. It was widely believed that being a close associate of Nuhu, Sadau might have been instigated by him, allegedly to disparage Zango. This led to a clash between the two stars that almost threaten the stability of Kannywood.
However after much persuasion and concerns raised in the interest of the Hausa film industry, Nuhu and Zango reconciled their differences and expressed their reconnection by co-starring in a new movie Akasi.
No doubt the development would be remembered by many for a longtime.
