The Academic Forum of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (AFIMN) has petitioned the United Nations Human Rights Council, Amnesty International, and the National Human Rights Commission, urging them to intensify efforts toward securing justice for victims of the 2015 Zaria massacre as the incident clocks 10 years.

The petitions were written and signed by Professor Abdullahi Danladi on behalf of the movement.

In the petition, the group called on the international and national human rights bodies to push for the prosecution of those responsible for the killings, and to renew calls for an independent international investigation into the events of December 2015.

The petition noted that hundreds of unarmed civilians were killed during the military crackdown in Zaria, Kaduna State, while others were allegedly subjected to arbitrary detention, torture, and enforced disappearance.

According to the petitioners, no senior government or military officials have been held accountable a decade after the incident, while families of victims “continue to face intimidation, stigmatization, and denial of justice.”

“Ten years of silence and impunity cannot erase the pain of the Zaria Massacre. Justice delayed is justice denied,” the petition stated, urging the human rights bodies to “stand firmly with victims, their families, and Nigerians demanding accountability, truth, and dignity.”

The Islamic Movement said it expects renewed international pressure to advance accountability and provide closure for affected families.
