Ogun 2019: ADC candidate vows to reinstate sacked NLC chairman, establish workers loan board

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) gubernatorial candidate, Gboyega Nasiru Isiaka has said he will reinstate the Chairman of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Akeem Ambali and other leaders who were dismissed from the civil service.

Daily Trust recalls that Ambali and 15 Labour leaders were sacked in October 2016 for alleged involvement in political activities.
While some of the embattled leaders were recalled, others sent on forced retirement, Ambali had approached National Industrial Court, seeking to upturn his sack.

Speaking at an interactive session with Labour leaders at the NLC Secretariat in Abeokuta on Friday, Isiaka promised to reinstate NLC leaders whose sack were not reversed.

He also assured the workers that his government would review and re-organise the Contributory Pension Scheme, CBS, for effective performance and equally clear backlog of deductions which the workers are owed by the government.

“Workers are the engine room of any government and we will not take them for granted. Under my watch as the governor of the State by May 29, my administration would establish Workers Loan Board, so that our workers can access loan for better living.

“Also, we will re-introduce the office of Principal-General for secondary schools and for our headteachers in the primary schools. We will equally construct workers’ estates in the three senatorial districts of the State.

“And finally, reinstatement of Comrade Akeem Ambali and other NLC and TUC leaders that were illegally dismissed,” he said
On his part, Ambali called on the ADC candidate to create Ministry of Labour and Employment to cater for the workers’ needs in the state, if elected as the governor.

Ambali also challenged him to pursue developmental projects at the grassroots to stem urban drifting.
