Imams in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have been advised to shun political campaigns in their Friday sermons.

The Committee of F.C.T Imams Initiatives (CFII), an umbrella body of Imams in the territory, gave the advice in a communiqué issued at the end of its two-day seminar in Abuja.

CFII tasked members to guide and encourage Muslims toward voting credible candidates at all levels, irrespective of party affiliations.

The seminar, which was attended by about 300 Imams from within and outside Abuja, discussed the expected roles of the Imams on issues relating to politics, corruption, and security challenges.

The Imams were also charged to struggle toward self-reliance by establishing a joint venture through a lawful means.

CFII also advised them to avoid competition in materialism, greed, or begging their followers.

Earlier, the guest lecturer, Professor Auwalu Yadudu of the Bayero University, Kano, tasked the Imams to have other sources of income and to avoid absolutely relying on charity.

Professor Yadudu, represented by the forum’s Amir, Sheikh Tajuddeen Bello, the Imam of the Wuse Community Jumma’at Mosque, Abuja, said such step would shield them against becoming corrupt themselves.
