This is a clarion call to the electorate in Yobe to shun politicians who do not have faith as well as commitment to serve their constituents.
Unpatriotic politicians do not understand the dreams of their constituents; they do not represent their hopes, aspirations and interests; they are also not pleased to serve their constituents despite the fact that they campaigned to be elected. They never bothered to leave a legacy that will improve the standard of living of their constituents.
However, they are careless and as such cannot express the hopes, dreams and interests of their constituents. They lack integrity because it is a measure of actions, methods, values, principles, expectations and outcomes of a good course. They are not honest, promising and God-fearing. They are not trustworthy and reliable. They don’t make positive decisions to impact on their constituents not even to accept responsibilities for their actions and words. They make promises and never keep their promises. They use their power as an end in itself rather than for the public good. They never appreciate that a fulfilling and meaningful life is created through service to others.
I am afraid, most Yobe politicians serving at both public and political capacities at the Federal Government display such attributes and this is why they only understand the role of their constituents during electioneering campaign. But once they get what they want, they forget their constituents and go back to their normal activities in major cities of the country leaving their voters languishing in poverty.
Our politicians should ponder what Helen Keller says: “Life is an exciting business, and most exciting when it is lived for others.”
To Yobe electorate, we must vote for politicians who understand the essence of truth, display sincerity and practice what they preach otherwise, we have no hope and on our standard of living will continue to deteriorate.
