2019 polls: NBA inaugurates monitoring c’ttee

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has set up a national elections monitoring team for the 2019 general elections.

The 22-member committee is chaired by a former General Secretary of NBA, Mazi Afam Osigwe, while Liman Salihu is to serve as secretary.

Speaking on the team, Paul Usoro (SAN) said they would operate mostly from Abuja but would maintain direct and unbroken communication with the feeder teams in the various states of the federation.

Usoro noted that personnel and national officers of the NBA secretariat would also be on hand to assist both at the state and national levels.

“The task before the committee is enormous, but we have confidence in the teams that we have constituted both at the national and state levels, and we assure Nigerians that the NBA will live up to its reputation for fact-based reporting, non-partisanship, integrity and objectivity in its monitoring of the elections, not any different from our monitoring and reporting of the Osun governorship election which remains a Nigerian reference point in election monitoring and reporting,” he said.
