A coalition of Kano based youth groups has presented a position paper on the upcoming general elections to Kano state Commissioner of Police and the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) as part of the its efforts to ensure free and fair elections in the state.

Speaking during the presentation of paper, the leader of the coalition, Malama Maryam Garba Usman, said the move was an attempt by youths under the platform of ‘Vote not Fight’ campaign to ensure that all election processes were conducted in accordance with the laid down rules and regulations and most importantly in a peaceful manner.

“We are here to present our position on the upcoming elections with the hope that, the police and INEC will ensure the stipulated mandate that all processes have been conducted in the manner they should be.

We also urge the police to ensure prompt arrest and prosecution of all electoral offenders,” she said.

Speaking on behalf of the Police Commissioner Rabi’u Yusuf; DCP Eboka Friday, said the Nigerian Police was more committed than ever to ensure that a free, fair and credible election was conducted in the upcoming elections.

Kano state INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) Professor Riskuwa Arabu Shehu, told the youths that it was a good sign that the youths have taken the fight against election violence themselves as INEC was 100% committed to a free and fair elections.
