It is no longer news that the top echelon of the Nigeria elite class have ganged up together with the sole aim to dislodge a formidable common enemy through the ballot box in 2019. Discerning observers are neither amused as to the reason why hitherto strange bedfellows who ordinarily will never touch one another even with a long pole are coming together in preparation for a mother of all battles.
Of course, the aim for such détente is survival and self-preservation from the intense heat of anti-corruption jihad of Mr. Integrity-the President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari. However, what is news and surprising is how the so-called power brokers who over the years, have converted Nigeria into personal fiefdom, intend to accomplish such daunting task, taking into cognizance ordinary Nigerian unwavering resolves to support for Buhari and his progressive policies?
Indeed, between now and February 16th, 2019, a lot of resources will be deployed with the intention to achieve the set objective among which is the media warfare by the opposition and campaign of calumny such as the issue of extreme hunger in the land. By this, the elites hope to score huge popularity among the poor, dejected and traumatized citizenry.
In their desperation, the elite hope to divide the northern votes. But the history of their tragic misadventure is too graphic to be forgotten that no amount of sophistry can entice the poor electorates to vote against Buhari! Besides, Buhari is not the enemy of the poor masses, and nobody can use the masses as cannon fodders to fight a proxy war!
Most of the policy thrust by the Buhari Administration does not favour the elites. In fact, the heat is so much that the rich are also crying for succour. They are aware that when Buhari returns in 2019, they will be in trouble, especially with the implementation of the presidential order which will return all proceeds of corruptions back to the people.
In the last 16, terrible years of the locust, Nigerians can recall vividly the perils, and security quagmire that Nigeria was subjected to. Precious Life and properties were wasted. And the country was plunged into recession by a combination of many deadly factors including humongous corruptions and embezzlement. So, to even entertain such wishy-washy thinking that the poor citizens have forgotten, and will agree for a return to that hopeless old order of sleazes and waste is tantamount to passing a camel through a proverbial needle.
No doubt, the last four years have been hectic for the poor electorate too. These are due to the backlogs of inherited problems in the country. The poor have extended a lot of sacrifices to Baba Buhari knowing that the first four years of the APC government are years of arresting the drift and redirecting the country along sustainable path of progress and developments. It is our hope that the next four years would be for consolidation and purposeful leadership that would usher in the much desired prosperity for all. For this, the people are ready to put their eggs in Buhari’s Basket for another 4 years!
It is gratifying to note that aside Baba Buhari’s integrity quotients which is very high and second to none; so much has been achieved. At least, the country is out of recession. Farming have once again become our pride. The general hopelessness and despair amidst daunting security challenges which hitherto engulfed the whole country haven been reduced to a considerable limit.
So, I don’t know how the current elite gang-up expect the masses to allow that hope for a new era to be truncated and return the country back into the hands of looters, and ‘corruption is not stealing crusaders’ by simply dishing out miserable crumbs to the hapless poor in exchange for concrete promise by Buhari led APC, that hold the promise to differentiate between conviction and despair; trust surplus and deficits; and complete rejection of the old disastrous order!!
This gang up by strange bedfellows shall fail miserably.
