The chairman, media and publicity of 2021 Children Golf Development Clinic, Hon Dr. Olubunmi Usim Wilson has stated that the event tagged “Future Champions of Golf” is geared at raising new leaders for the country.
She stated this yesterday during the opening ceremony of the clinic being organized by the Ladies section of the IBB Golf Club Abuja.
“This is what we call ‘catch them young’. A lot of people think playing golf is unattainable. For over a decade now, we have been organizing development clinics for children. We instill in them honesty because you can’t play a game of gold without being honest. If you are dishonest, it will show when you are playing.
“We are catching them young for them to enjoy playing golf and learn etiquette so that by the time they reach the productive age, they will be one of the best leaders the country has ever produced,” she said.
In the same vein, the Vice Lady captain, IBB International Golf & Country Club, Joy Obande Ikwue has hailed the huge turn-out of children who are to be trained to understand the game of golf.
“We are so happy to see them turn up and I am glad they are having fun. We are trying to bring the younger ones together to make them our champions of tomorrow and we have to do this to catch them young to understand the game of golf,” she said.
Over 100 children are currently participating in the two weeks development clinic.
