The golf section of Ikoyi Club 1938 has stepped up preparations for the 2021 Nigeria Cup tournament just as pre-qualifiers will tee-off on Saturday, August 28.

The amateur tournament is organised annually by the Ikoyi Golf Community Nigeria Association (IGCNA) and hosted by Ikoyi Club 1938 to celebrate Nigeria’s Independence anniversary.

Organisers of the tournament have since pledged to raise the bar by making sure it is a memorable event for the players, sponsors and spectators.

The golf course is also said to be a bee-hive of activities as golfers who want to hone their skills and games before the tournament qualifiers are keeping the Practice Range busy.

Already, the Organising Committee headed by Mr Frank Igbene and assisted by Tade Adekunle and Mrs Ronke Iyolaa is working to provide a hitch-free tournament.

Since its debut in 1997, The Nigeria Cup has grown to become one the most popular and glamorous amateur golf events in Africa.

Apart from competitions which will involve staff, caddies, professional golfers, male and female golfers of Ikoyi Club, the Nigeria Cup has become a financial vehicle which impacts on its immediate environment through strategic investments and donations to charities in Lagos State.

This year, the objective is to donate an automated irrigation system to the Golf Section of Ikoyi Club.

Organisers have also said in consonance with the present health conditions, the 2021 Nigeria Cup will be held in full compliance with COVID-19 protocols.
