The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Chairman of the Society of Nigerian Artists (SNA), Aderinkomi John Adeleye, has urged artists to engage in voters’ education through their works.
Adeleye who made this known at an event organised by the FCT chapter to celebrate the Word Art Day said the situation in the country could be turned around if artists are actively involved in voters’ education ahead of the 2023 general elections.
“We can use the art to turn around the events in the country and that is why we are engaging artists to make sure they use their works to tell a story about the things going on in Nigeria. It is electioneering time; we can use art to tell people to vote for the right people so that the country can be better,” he said.
He said World Art Day is celebrated to create awareness on the development of art.
“The day helps to reinforce the links between the artists and the society. Art is a very vital part of society, it mirrors society, it educates, preaches, enlightens inspires, heals and documents. An artwork is a living reminder of historical events,” he said.
While buttressing the essence of art, he said it also transforms a house into a home, as it reveals the character and personality of the occupier.
He, therefore, urged Nigerians to supports artist, adding that the country will be better for it.
