Nigeria Customs Service Female Basketball Club yesterday defeated Equity Bank Hawks of Kenya 83-53 to win 5th position at the ongoing Africa Women Basketball League AWBL held in Alexandria, Egypt.

Borders ladies secured the ticket for the tournament having played a total of seven games winning four and losing three.

Team captain Nkem Akaraiwe led the floor with 27 points, nine rebounds, six assists and a 44 efficiency rating she was joined in double digits by Favour Chiamaka Opara who poured in 21 points, five rebounds, two assists and a 26 efficiency rating while Ebere Cordelia Okeke added 10 points, four rebounds and three assists to spur a big celebration from the Bashir Adewale Adeniyi ladies.

In their first game against the University of Douala of Cameroon, the Nigeria Customs Service Female Basketball team beat the Cameroonians in group A with the game ending 57-46.

KPA of Kenya defeated CNS 73-53 in the second game. The Customs team also lost to the sporting of Alexandria Egypt 96-57.

The fourth game witnessed a turnaround as the Customs team beat CNSS Basketball Club Dr. Congo 66-57.

Nigeria’s representative, Customs also lost in the quarterfinal to Inter Clubs of Angola 65-89 while beating Overdose Up Station Cameroun 67-58 to qualify for 5-6 placement.

The last game went in favor of the Custom team beating Equity Bank Hawks of Kenya in a 5-6 placement as they outclassed their opponent in all four quarters (18-16, 19-12, 23-18, 23-7) to end their campaign on a promising note.
