The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Dr Iyorchia Ayu, has summoned the governorship candidates of the party to the national headquarters to tackle some of the challenges facing the party. 

 The meeting, Daily Trust gathered, was part of the ongoing efforts to settle grievances among party members towards presenting a common front in the 2023 general elections. 

Addressing journalists after the meeting, Ayu admitted that the “candidates came and expressed their concerns in their various states and briefed us on the efforts they are making to win the election.”

 He said the elections will be won in the states and not just at the national level, adding, “I am very happy with the progress that we have made so far in various states and some of the little issues that we have clarified and it was an extremely useful meeting.

“We want to return about 25 state governors or more, as we used to have. So the mood in the party is excellent.”

 Speaking on the situation in the party, Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed said he was not aware of any meeting between the Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike, and members of other political parties. 

 Wike met with the presidential candidate of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in London, together with the governors of Benue and Oyo states.

 “We believe in the supremacy and sanctity of the party, and he (Ayu) has already told you that the mood is very excellent.

“The candidates are coming together, uniting the party to discuss, even issues of reconciliation,” he said.
