A coalition of 32 civil society organisations yesterday demanded that public office holders especially ministers and other appointees seeking elections resign to pursue their political aspirations.
At a press conference in Abuja, one of the conveners and chairman, Transition Monitoring Group, Auwal Musa Rafsanjani, call for the sack and investigation of ministers and political appointees engaged in partisan politics at the detriment of serving the nation.
According to him, it is absurd and reprehensible that the Central Bank of Nigeria governor, Godwin Emefiele, is seeking is aspiring for presidency while still in office.
Another co-convener and chairman, Partners for Electoral Reforms, Ezenwa Nwagwu, urged Emefiele to resign as sensitive materials are usually kept at the CBN during election periods.
Also, Executive Director, Resource Centre for Human Rights and Civic Education, Ibrahim Zikirullahi, wondered how a supposedly frugal president would have many of his appointees slugging it out and spending millions to succeed him.
