An independent election tracking organization, the Concerned Northern Political Trackers of Nigeria (CONPTRAN) has criticized allegations against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over the conduct of the 2023 general elections.
In a statement in Abuja this weekend, CONPTRAN expressed dismay over the attempts to discredit the INEC and the elections by persons it described as “political jobbers”.
In the statement signed by its coordinator, Isah Haruna, CONPTRAN said some talks about the possible compromise of the INEC chairman, Prof Mahmoud Yakubu and its ICT director, Paul Omokore, was baseless.
He said, “It should be noted that the said INEC portal is resident in Amazon Web Service (AWS), a world-renowned and reputable secured cloud-based server. As regards this allegation, AWS had issued a statement that no portal was at any time shut down from its own end. The glitches were from the Presidential Application which was not developed by Mr Omokore from the onset.”

The association said its investigations show that there is no credible evidence to the claim that the president-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, gave $10 million to Mr Omokore through the Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello, to shut down the INEC portal during the 2023 general elections.
