The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has accused the Nigerian media of bias in the coverage of political parties and their candidates ahead of the 2023 general elections.

A statement signed by Mallam Illyasu Gadu, spokesman, Kola Abiola Presidential Campaign Council, on Monday, particularly berated a television station for labelling the presidential candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and Labour Party (LP) as “special guests, notable candidates and front-runners,” while referring to the rest as “others.”

“This to us is pre-empting the campaign processes, a politically fraudulent but calculated step to misleading the innocent masses of this great nation into thinking, yet again, that their choices are limited to the few candidates now being glorified by the NTA and others like it as special guests of honour.”

Gadu stressed that an invitation from the NTA to the presidential candidate of PRP, Mr. Kola Abiola, dated 15 August 2022, to participate in a political programme addressed the four political parties’ candidates as special guests while the rest were referred to as “others.”

He described NTA’s action as sentimental and biased, saying the station was unworthy of further recognition as a platform for national orientation.

He also lamented that the Nigerian media only recognised APC, PDP, NNPP and LP in their reportage, ignoring other parties.
