2024 Sheroes Cup will improve NWFL next season – Adesanya

Renowned football administrator and one of the organisers of the 2024 Sheroes Cup, Emmanuel Adesanya, has said the competition will improve the standard of Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) in the 2024/25 season.

The former Chief Operating Officer (CEO) of Nigerian National League (NNL) highlighted the importance of the pre-season tournament when he said it provides an opportunity for clubs to test their newly acquired players.

“The pre-season tournament gives the clubs the opportunity to try their new players. We saw all the big teams like Nasarawa Amazon, Naija Ratels, Ekiti Queens and others. They are not using their regular players. The big players are kept on the bench as they try the new players.

“This is the essence of preseason. When they try new players, they see where they are lacking in the main team,” he said.

Adesanya also spoke on what to expect at the end of the tournament which has become a flagship competition for NWFL clubs.

“In Sheroes Cup, there will be attractive awards for the Overall Best Player, Best Goalkeeper, Highest Goals scorer, Best Behaved Team, Best Organised Team and Best Coach of the Tournament.

“So, there are a lot of incentives to be given to the players and clubs at the end of the tournament,” he said.

Ten women’s football clubs are participating in the ongoing 2024 Sheroes Cup in Abuja.
