The Consul General of the South African High Commission in Nigeria, Prof. Bobby Moroe, has emphasized that the annual South African Cup Golf Tournament serves as a tribute to Nigeria’s significant role in the liberation of South Africa in 1994.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the 2025 edition of the tournament held at the prestigious Ikoyi Golf Club 1938 in Lagos on Sunday, Prof. Moroe stated: “We are very proud of the role that Nigeria played in ending apartheid in South Africa, especially now that both nations are important economies in Africa.”
This year’s tournament attracted over 100 golfers, including top business executives and members of the diplomatic corps, who competed in a Stableford format on the par-72 course.
Lanre Kalejaiye and Caren van Royen emerged champions in the men’s and women’s categories, returning 34 and 39 Stableford points respectively.
Other standout performers included Sanya Akindele, Dammy Oruwari, Lynda Obieze, Ankit Pir, Nitin Mehta, Kayode Oguntayo, Seyi Siwoku, Jagdish Jethvani, Pat Ozoemene, and Morenike Nedum.
Tolu Adesemowo, Chief Executive Officer of Crossflex International Limited, the tournament’s organizing firm, praised the impact of the event on the golfing community and stakeholders.
“We are honoured to bring value to golf and its stakeholders through this elite event, deploying our experience on the field to maximum effect,” he said.
