Toyota is advancing its hydrogen mobility vision with the debut of the 2026 Toyota Mirai, a refined, zero-emission fuel cell electric sedan that blends cutting-edge technology, elegant design, and impressive performance.

With improved driving range, upgraded features, and a modernized design, the new Mirai reinforces Toyota’s leadership in sustainable innovation.

Powered by Toyota’s latest fuel cell electric stack, the 2026 Mirai delivers 182 horsepower and a smooth, quiet driving experience. High-capacity hydrogen tanks support an EPA-estimated driving range of 402 miles, making it one of the longest-range fuel cell vehicles available. New for 2026 are standard 19-inch black machine-finished alloy wheels, giving the Mirai a more athletic, confident stance. It arrives at Toyota dealerships this winter with an MSRP of $51,795 (excluding the $1,195 dealer processing and handling fee).

As a Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV), the Mirai generates its own electricity using hydrogen, eliminating the need for plug-in charging. Hydrogen stored in onboard tanks combines with oxygen from the air inside the fuel cell stack, producing the electricity that powers the rear-mounted AC synchronous motor and emitting only water vapor. Electricity from regenerative braking is stored in a lithium-ion battery, supporting smooth and responsive acceleration. An advanced air-intake system helps reduce noise and purifies incoming air for a cleaner cabin experience.

 

Engineered for performance and comfort

The Mirai is built on Toyota’s premium GA-L rear-wheel-drive platform, commonly used for luxury-sport sedans in the Toyota and Lexus families. The platform accommodates two hydrogen tanks beneath the rear seats, supporting balanced handling and structural integrity. A multilink suspension, laser screw welding, and structural adhesive bonding contribute to a quiet, composed ride. Standard performance technologies include Active Cornering Assist to reduce understeer during turns and Hill Start Assist Control for smooth takeoffs on inclines.

 

Sophisticated exterior, refined interior

The 2026 Mirai stands out with a low, wide, and streamlined profile, featuring a long hood, sweeping roofline, and sculpted rear deck. Its full LED lighting package includes auto-leveling bi-beam headlights, multi-LED indicators, Mirai-etched side marker lamps, and a striking LED taillight panel that spans the vehicle’s width.

Inside, the cabin delivers a premium feel with SofTex®-trimmed heated seats—8-way power-adjustable for the driver and 4-way for the passenger. Dual-zone automatic climate control and front footwell illumination enhance interior comfort. The Mirai is offered in four exterior colors: Black, Oxygen White*, Heavy Metal*, and Hydro Blue*.

 

Advanced, driver-focused technology

The interior is anchored by a 12.3-inch multimedia touchscreen offering access to navigation, climate settings, media, and the Panoramic View Monitor, which provides a 360-degree overhead view when parking or maneuvering. A matching 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster displays EV system information, driving range, hydrogen fuel level, and an ECO drive indicator to encourage efficient driving habits.

Connectivity is seamless with wireless Apple CarPlay®, Android Auto™, dual Bluetooth® pairing, a Qi wireless charging tray, a USB media port, three USB-C charging ports, and a 12V DC socket. The Toyota Audio Multimedia system supports Over-the-Air (OTA) updates and voice commands activated by saying “Hey Toyota” with an active Drive Connect subscription. A JBL Premium Audio system delivers immersive in-car sound, while Wi-Fi Connect is available through an active subscription.
