Former Governor of Rivers State and immediate past Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi, has vowed to confront what he described as “merchants of election result writing” in the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Amaechi, who returned to the state on Wednesday, days after formally announcing his defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), declared that the era of electoral manipulation in Rivers would soon be over.

Addressing a crowd of supporters and ADC members who received him at the Port Harcourt International Airport, the South-South leader of the party said the ADC was in Rivers to provide genuine leadership and restore hope.

He accused unnamed politicians in the state of consistently manipulating election results and urged his supporters to be prepared to challenge them at the ballot box.

Amaechi later proceeded to the ADC state secretariat in Rukpokwu, Port Harcourt, where he was received by the party’s National Treasurer, Elder Kelvin Alogoa.

He criticised President Bola Tinubu’s administration, saying life had become unbearable for ordinary Nigerians, and warned that a second term would bring even more hardship.

Amaechi, who has indicated interest in vying for the ADC’s presidential ticket, said the party leadership was aware of upcoming congresses and national conventions, but that specific timelines would be determined by the party’s national leadership.

Calling on the people of Rivers State to unite and vote out Tinubu’s government in 2027, Amaechi said continued inaction would only deepen suffering and poverty.

“Nigerians are already tired of Tinubu’s administration, as hunger and hardship have become widespread,” he said.

“Rivers State is notorious for writing results. I will not work with you if you won’t match (out) those results’ merchants. As ADC members, you must be prepared for a battle against electoral fraud.

“If you are not tired of President Tinubu, I am tired. If you are not hungry, I am hungry.

“If rich men are spending N4 million a month on fuel, only God knows how the poor are surviving. The President says he is not here to make you happy. The ADC is here to make you happy,” he declared.
