2027: APC stakeholders in Kwara Intensify Support For Tinubu, Bolarinwa

Political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections have intensified in Kwara State as stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) across different local government areas endorse President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid and the governorship aspiration of Hon. Bashir Omolaja Bolarinwa.

The endorsements, drawn from Ilorin West, Ilorin East and Isin local government areas, are coming as consultations widen across senatorial districts for the top seat.

In Ilorin West, the Progressive Caucus of the APC formally endorsed Bolarinwa at a stakeholders’ meeting attended by party elders, executives, women and youth representatives from across the 12 wards.

Delivering the endorsement, party elder Prof. Yahya Duro Uthman Hambali said the decision reflected a collective assessment of leadership needs in the state.

“Today is not just another political gathering. Today, we are making history. Today, we are choosing the future over the past, progress over stagnation, and hope over despair,” he said.

Hambali said the endorsement followed extensive consultations across the three senatorial districts and broad engagement with party stakeholders.

“We are not endorsing promises. We are endorsing performance, experience, and credibility,” he said.

He noted that Bolarinwa’s political experience, spanning councilor, local government chairman, member of the House of Representatives, former APC state chairman and former board chairman of the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission, positioned him for higher responsibility.

He also outlined priorities including security, education, job creation and economic development.

“Security first, so our farmers can return to the farm without fear. Education that works, so our children can compete globally. Jobs for youth and women, because an idle hand is a lost future,” he added.

In a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting read by Engr Ola Razaq, the group reaffirmed that the endorsement was unanimous and based on Bolarinwa’s track record, leadership capacity, and perceived ability to address key challenges such as insecurity and youth unemployment.

The communiqué further noted that the caucus passed a vote of confidence in both Bolarinwa and the leadership of the APC for presenting “a competent and credible candidate”.

Earlier in his opening remarks, the convener of the meeting, Hon. Ayo Obisesan, said the decision to endorse Bolarinwa followed wide consultations and critical assessment of the state’s political direction.

“Our decision is not made lightly. It comes after careful consultation and consideration of what our state needs most at this time,” he said.

Obisesan added that the endorsement represents a shared commitment between the people and the candidate.

“Today’s endorsement is more than a political statement. It is a covenant between a leader and the people. We are confident that under his stewardship, Kwara will witness leadership that listens, delivers, and unites,” he said.

In Ilorin East, APC stakeholders under the Ilorin East Progressive Caucus also endorsed President Tinubu and Bolarinwa through a voice affirmation at a stakeholders’ meeting in Ilorin.

Chairman of the caucus, Chief Babatunde Asanlu, said the endorsements were based on performance, leadership experience and grassroots acceptability.
He cited ongoing federal reforms including fuel subsidy removal, exchange rate adjustments, infrastructure renewal and student loan schemes as reasons for Tinubu’s support.

On Bolarinwa, he described him as a tested party leader with strong grassroots influence and a key figure in the 2019 APC success in Kwara.

In Isin Local Government Area, APC members under the Isin Progressive Likeminds also endorsed Tinubu and Bolarinwa after consultations and grassroots engagement.

Leader of the group, Kayode Olaoye, said the endorsement reflected the demand for inclusive and visionary leadership capable of addressing the state’s socio economic realities.

“We are firmly persuaded that the exigencies of this period demand visionary, inclusive, and transformative leadership that transcends sectional considerations,” he said.

Across the three local government areas, party stakeholders resolved to intensify grassroots mobilisation and strengthen support structures ahead of the 2027 elections.
