Ahead of the 2027 elections, chairmen of the All Progressives Congress (APC) across 52 wards in Kwara Central have endorsed Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for the Senate.

The endorsement was announced on Wednesday during a press conference and media parley held at the Nigeria Union of Journalists press centre in Ilorin, the state capital.

According to the forum, the decision was based on the governor’s leadership record and developmental strides across the state.

Speaking at the event, the Forum’s Chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Baba Gobir, said the move was driven by a collective desire to sustain purposeful leadership and ensure representation that aligns with the needs of the people.

“This position is not borne out of mere political consideration, but a sincere and collective desire to see continuity of experience and people oriented governance at a higher level,” he said.

Gobir added that the endorsement reflects the appreciation of grassroots leaders for what he described as the governor’s transformational impact over the past seven years.

“As grassroots leaders, we have witnessed firsthand the numerous people centred initiatives and impactful projects being executed under this administration. We can point to developments in infrastructure as well as youth and women empowerment programmes,” he said.

He also spoke on behalf of his colleagues from all 193 wards in the state to laud the governor’s performance across the sixteen local government areas.

According to him, the administration has delivered meaningful development across key sectors.

Gobir praised AbdulRazaq, who also chairs the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), for his “steadfast commitment to democratic values, good governance and inclusive development.”

He further thanked the state chairman of the party, Prince Sunday Fagbemi, for fostering unity and discipline within the party structure.

The forum also lauded the conduct of the recent ward, local government and state congresses, describing the processes as peaceful, transparent and reflective of the party’s internal democratic strength.

It reaffirmed its loyalty to the APC leadership in Kwara and pledged to mobilise support across communities ahead of the 2027 elections.

The forum called on party members to remain united and focused on consolidating the party’s achievements in the state.

Gobir described the 2027 general elections as a “walkover” for the APC at both national and state levels, insisting that opposition parties pose no significant threat.

According to him, the performance of APC led administrations under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the federal level and Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq in Kwara has strengthened public confidence and earned widespread support.

He noted that ongoing reforms, infrastructural development and social intervention programmes have continued to impact citizens positively, weakening opposition narratives.

Daily Trust reports that Senator Saliu Mustapha, who succeeded Senator Yahaya Oloriegbe, is the incumbent representing Kwara Central in the Senate.

Both Mustapha and Oloriegbe are widely believed to be eyeing the governorship seat, as AbdulRazaq is currently serving his second and final term, setting the stage for a complex political realignment within the district.

The emerging scenario has positioned Kwara Central as a focal point of intense political maneuvering ahead of 2027.
