Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State have said the role of former state chairman of the party, Hon. Bashir Omolaja Bolarinwa, in ending the state’s long political dominance positions him for the party’s 2027 governorship ticket.
They stated this in Omu-Aran, following formal endorsements of Bolarinwa for the ticket with a call for continued mobilisation and cohesion ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The stakeholders also expressed support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid.
In his opening remarks, Comrade Atolagbe Abdulrasaq Otunba, called for unity within the party, urging members to rally behind a credible and experienced candidate ahead of the next election cycle.
Mr. Tunde Salau, for his part, described the gathering as a “moment of decision,” calling on party members to prioritise experience, integrity and leadership capacity in their choice of candidates.
He said Bolarinwa’s political trajectory, which includes service as councillor, two-term local government chairman, member of the House of Representatives and APC state chairman, reflected consistent leadership experience and results.
“Leadership is not just about positions; it is about character. BOB is a man of integrity, humility and vision who understands the people and carries them along,” Salau said.
In a communiqué read by Dr. Philips Popoola, the stakeholders across the wards in Irepodun said the decision to adopt Bolarinwa followed consultations and assessment of aspirants within the area.
The communiqué stated that “Bolarinwa’s political record and his role in the party’s 2019 electoral success in Kwara State were key considerations in the endorsement.
It added that “his leadership contributed to the political shift that ended long-standing dominance in the state and repositioned the APC”.
According to them, his vision aligns with a broader aspiration for inclusive and development-driven governance in Kwara State.
They called on party members and stakeholders to support his ambition.
Goodwill messages were delivered by Mr. Sesan Oni, House of Representatives aspirant for Ekiti/Irepodun/Isin/Oke-Ero Federal Constituency, Hon. Gbenle Adeyemi and Mr. Lawal Adeola, who all called for unity within the party and expressed confidence in Bolarinwa’s leadership capacity.
