2027: Group purchases APC governorship form for David Kente

A political group in Taraba State has purchased the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship nomination form for party stalwart and philanthropist, David Sabo Kente, ahead of the 2027 elections.

The form was presented to Kente on Saturday by a group led by former APC State Secretary, Godwin Villannah, following what supporters described as weeks of consultations and appeals across the state.

Kente, who had earlier declined calls to join the race after meetings with party stakeholders in Wukari between April 14 and 15, eventually accepted the nomination after what the group termed “sustained pressure” from party members and supporters.

Speaking at the presentation, Villannah said the decision to purchase the form was driven by the need to encourage broader participation within the party.

“This gesture reflects our commitment to internal democracy and our belief that Chief David Sabo Kente possesses the leadership capacity to move Taraba State forward,” he said.

“We consulted widely, and there was a strong consensus among stakeholders that he should step into the race.”

In his acceptance remarks, Kente thanked the group for what he described as a demonstration of confidence in his leadership and pledged to run an inclusive campaign.

“I am deeply humbled by this show of support and trust. After wide consultations and reflection, I have decided to accept the nomination form,” Kente said.

“I call on all members of our great party and the good people of Taraba State to join hands with me as we work towards building a more inclusive and prosperous state.”

He added that his ambition would focus on people-oriented policies and broad-based development.

“Our focus will be on policies that uplift our people, strengthen our communities and ensure that governance delivers real impact,” he said.

Supporters at the event described Kente’s entry into the race as a significant development ahead of the APC primaries, noting his longstanding involvement in party-building efforts in the state.

“Chief Kente has remained consistent in grassroots engagement and party development over the years. We believe he represents a credible option for the party,” a stakeholder at the event said.

Kente is expected to begin wider consultations and unveil his policy direction in the coming weeks as preparations for the APC governorship primaries gather momentum.
