A youth group, Kebbi Progressive Youths (KEPYO), has urged residents of Kebbi State to exercise caution and carefully assess political aspirants as activities ahead of the 2027 general elections begin to gather momentum.

Speaking to journalists in Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday, the group’s spokesperson, Comrade Usman Musa, said the state requires leaders with integrity, competence and a clear development agenda.

According to Musa, the call was prompted by concerns over the quality of leadership being offered in some political quarters, particularly by individuals who have previously held public office at the national level.

He advised residents to remain vigilant and not allow political ambition or heightened campaign rhetoric to overshadow the need for accountability, experience and performance in public service.

Musa noted that intense political competition often leads to the use of propaganda, inducements and emotional appeals, urging voters to look beyond such tactics and focus on verifiable records and policy proposals.

He encouraged youths, traditional leaders and other stakeholders to critically examine the backgrounds and track records of aspirants and to avoid supporting leadership choices that may not align with the long-term interests of the state.

KEPYO also appealed to political parties to prioritise credibility, competence and internal democracy in their candidate selection processes, stressing that the 2027 elections should centre on good governance, transparency and sustainable development.

The group further expressed support for the continuity of policies it described as beneficial to the state, calling for efforts to strengthen governance structures in the overall interest of Kebbi residents.
