A coalition of youths from Kwara Central has thrown its weight behind the agitation for the zoning of the 2027 governorship ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to Kwara North Senatorial District.
The group, drawn from the four local government areas of the Ilorin Emirate comprising Asa, Ilorin East, Ilorin West and Ilorin South, also urged the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Hon. Saliu Yakubu Danladi, to join the race.
Operating under the platform of Kwara Central Youths for Kwara North Agenda 2027, the group announced plans to mobilise support for Danladi ahead of the next election cycle.
As part of its activities, the coalition fixed April 11, 2026, for a solidarity rally in Ilorin to canvas support for the Speaker as its preferred candidate for the APC governorship ticket.
The group further disclosed that it had adopted a new identity with Kwara Central Youths for SYD Governor.
They said the move signals a full transition from advocacy for zoning to active political mobilisation for Danladi’s candidacy.
Addressing journalists at the Kwara North House in Ilorin, the group’s coordinator, Architect Idris Olaolu, said the decision followed extensive consultations with stakeholders across the state.
He said the endorsement was anchored on the principles of fairness, equity and justice, stressing that zoning the governorship to Kwara North would promote balance in the state’s political structure.
Olaolu added that the youths were convinced that Danladi possesses the competence and leadership capacity required to sustain and build on the achievements of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
He said the group was prepared to commit its network and resources toward ensuring the realisation of its objective.
“We are making a clear call on Rt. Hon. Saliu Yakubu Danladi to contest the 2027 governorship election. This endorsement is not merely symbolic but strategic, reflecting the collective resolve of youths across Kwara Central who believe in credible and capable leadership,” he said.
He maintained that the future of Kwara State would be secure under Danladi’s leadership, expressing optimism that a power shift to the North would further strengthen unity and inclusive governance in the state.
