A massive political rally held in Ilorin on Tuesday amid renewed calls for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and intensified demands for the governorship of Kwara State to be zoned to the North in 2027.

The event, tagged the Kwara North Mega Rally, held at Metropolitan Square, Asa Dam, attracted a large turnout of political leaders, traditional rulers, youths, women groups and stakeholders from across the state.

Speaking at the rally, All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain and 2027 Kwara North senatorial aspirant, Dr. Mahmud Umar Muhammad (Sodangi Etsu Patigi), described the gathering as a demonstration of unity and political direction.

“What we are witnessing here today is not just politics; it is the unity of purpose. Kwara North has spoken clearly, and we are speaking with one voice for progress, for inclusion, and for 2027,” he said.

According to him, the endorsement of President Bola Tinubu’s re-election, stems from the inspiration and confidence his administration continues to have among party stakeholders across the state.

Dr. Mahmud said the strength of Kwara North lies in unity and collective engagement, urging stakeholders to remain focused beyond electoral cycles.

“The strength of Kwara North lies in our togetherness. When we stand united, we are not ignored. This rally is proof that our future is bright if we remain focused,” he added.

He also stressed the need for sustained cohesion among political actors in the region, noting that its aspirations for 2027 must be pursued with discipline and strategic engagement.

Speaking on behalf of traditional rulers from the region, the Emir of Lafiagi, Muhammed Kudu Kawu, said the agitation reflects a long-standing demand for inclusion.

He noted that Kwara North has contributed significantly to electoral victories and political stability in the state, yet remains largely underrepresented at the top political level.

According to him, the region’s loyalty and consistency in elections justify its demand for consideration in the spirit of fairness and justice.

The royal father appealed to stakeholders in Kwara Central and South to support the call, stressing that zoning the governorship to Kwara North would strengthen unity and reinforce the state’s identity as the “State of Harmony.”

The rally had in attendance the four governorship aspirants from Kwara North: Senator Sadiq Umar, Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Salihu Yakubu Danladi, Makama Lafiagi, Alhaji Tajudeen Audu, and Hon. Mohammed Omar Bio.
