Traditional rulers and stakeholders from Kwara North have renewed their demand for the 2027 governorship seat and called for a stronger security response across the region.

Their position was contained in a communiqué issued after a high level engagement held at the palace of the Etsu Patigi, Ibrahim Umar Bologi II.

Apart from the Etsu Patigi, Etsu Tsaragi, emirs of Lafiagi, Kaiama, Okuta, Ilesha Baruba and the Oba of Jebba, also signed the document.

The meeting, themed Kwara North Unity, Security and Way Forward Project 2027, brought together first class traditional rulers, political leaders and community representatives to review the security situation and the political direction of the district.

The stakeholders warned that rising attacks, the closure of markets and schools and the disruption of economic activities have created growing fears among residents.

They called for continuous and coordinated action by federal, state and local governments to clear bandits, terrorists and other criminal groups from forests across the five local government areas.

Security, they noted, is a shared responsibility and urged residents to expose informants and collaborators believed to be aiding criminal activities.

While condemning the practice of harbouring criminals, the leader recommended the creation of a unified security structure for the entire Kwara North to be supervised by the five local government chairmen.

They further asked the government to train and equip vigilantes and forest guards who possess deep knowledge of the terrain.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq were praised for their efforts in addressing insecurity nationwide and in the district.

On the political front, the zone reaffirmed its governorship quest in 2027 adding that the demand is rooted in fairness, equity and justice.

“Unity is our strongest tool and we urged political actors to set aside differences and promote strategic alliances with Kwara Central and Kwara South while also extending consultations to Abuja and national party leadership.

“The priority is to ensure that political parties zone their governorship tickets to Kwara North ahead of the election. There are also ongoing consultations to secure at least one National Assembly seat for Moro Local Government in 2027”, the communique added.

Residents were encouraged to go and register and collect their Permanent Voter Cards to enhance the political strength of the district.
