Former Kwara State Commissioner for Works, Abdulquawiy Olododo, has launched his bid for the House of Representatives seat for Ilorin East/Ilorin South Federal Constituency ahead of the 2027 elections.

During the event, the All Progressives Congress (APC) stalwart unveiled a ‘grassroots wealth creation agenda’.

He said the strategy is designed to turn political representation into direct income opportunities for traders, farmers and youths in the constituency’.

Rather than promise conventional jobs in the abstract, the aspirant said his proposal was aimed at creating pathways to wealth at the grassroots.

According to him, his focus would be on building a functioning local economy that connects residents to enterprise support, skills development and federal intervention funding windows.

The former works commissioner, stressed that representation must translate into measurable economic impact for constituents.

Olododo said the ambition was driven by the need to convert political representation into practical livelihood opportunities.

“Everything I will do in Abuja will orbit two commitments. The first is this: I will build a real, functioning local economy for this constituency. Not promises about jobs but actual pathways to income.

“For our traders. For our farmers. For our young people who have skill and hunger and nowhere to direct it,” he said.

He explained that the proposed framework would include helping small businesses and entrepreneurs tap support from the Bank of Industry, NIRSAL and small and medium enterprise facilities associated with the Central Bank of Nigeria.

Olododo also tied the wealth creation agenda to skills development, saying youths in the constituency would be positioned for opportunities in technical trades, digital services and the growing remote-work economy.

He argued that grassroots prosperity should form a central objective of legislative representation.

Aside from this, the aspirant said accountability would be a second pillar of his campaign, promising a transparent model of engagement with constituents.

“The second is this: I will make this constituency’s representation transparent and accountable in a way it has never been before.

“You will always know what I am doing. You will always be able to check me,” he added.

The declaration attracted endorsements from political stakeholders and supporters, several of whom linked the aspiration to Olododo’s record in public office.

Member of the Kwara State Fiscal Responsibility Commission, Abdulganiyu Alawo, said the former commissioner had demonstrated qualities that made him fit for higher responsibility and urged constituents to support the bid.

APC chieftain, Usman Bibire Ajape, described the aspirant as a dynamic public servant and said his performance in government had reinforced confidence in his capacity.

“If we are acknowledging Olododo for his performance in office as commissioner, we should be appreciating Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for giving him the opportunity to serve in the cabinet,” Ajape said.

He added, “Past governments also tried but the present administration has ticked the right boxes. I can vouch for Abdulquawiy Olododo that he would not disappoint the people of his constituency.”

A representative of the students’ union, Adebayo Abdulkadir Alasa, also backed the aspiration, describing Olododo as a leader with broad appeal and strong support for young people.
