The All Progressives Congress (APC) consensus candidate in Gombe State, Dr Jamil Isiyaka Gwamna, has called on party members to close ranks and unite ahead of the general elections in 2027.

Gwamna made the appeal amid growing discontent within the party over the consensus arrangement that produced him as the flagbearer.

“Let me use this opportunity to call on all members of our great party, the APC, those who contested and those who supported the various contestants, to close ranks and come together,” he said in a chat with journalists.

He stressed that cohesion remains critical to the APC’s electoral success, noting that the party must work collectively to secure victories across all elective offices.

According to him, the APC is positioned to win the presidential, gubernatorial, senatorial, House of Representatives and State Assembly elections if members remain united.

“I am very hopeful that we are going to achieve this. But we need unity,” he added.

The candidate attributed his emergence to divine will, urging dissatisfied party members to accept the outcome in good faith.

“Power belongs to Almighty Allah, and He gives it to whomever He wills, whenever He wills, and at the time He chooses,” Gwamna said.

“There can only be one person in any position, never two. If you contest and lose, there will always be another time,” he added.

Describing his emergence as his first attempt at the governorship, Gwamna said the timing aligned with what he believes is divinely ordained.

“This is the first time I am contesting for this position… this is the time He has ordained as mine,” he said.

He also expressed gratitude to Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for his role in the process.

“I am deeply grateful that this has happened through our great governor. I sincerely appreciate this opportunity,” he said.

Daily Trust reports that the consensus arrangement has caused disquiet in the state.

Former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami who was also an aspirant, has rejected the process, which he described as a “coronation.”

He maintained that the development violated due process and called on supporters to remain calm while pursuing legal and party-based remedies.

Despite the pushback, Gwamna insisted that party unity remains paramount, urging members to stay committed to the continued progress of Gombe State under APC leadership.
