2027: Olawepo-Hashim consults Obasanjo, IBB; vows to secure Nigeria

A former presidential candidate and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential hopeful for the 2027 general elections, Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, has continued his nationwide consultations, pledging to address Nigeria’s worsening insecurity if elected.
Olawepo-Hashim held separate high-level meetings on Monday with former President Olusegun Obasanjo and former military Head of State, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (retd), where he promised to run an inclusive administration if given the mandate to lead the country.
The PDP chieftain said the meetings were part of his ongoing engagements with elder statesmen and key national figures to discuss Nigeria’s future direction.
After the meetings, Olawepo-Hashim assured stakeholders of his capacity to tackle Nigeria’s security challenges, rebuild national unity, stabilise the polity and restore economic prosperity.
He said the country urgently needs purposeful, inclusive and unifying leadership to avert what he described as a continued national fracture.
Olawepo-Hashim stressed that the 2027 election must be centred on national rescue, warning that persistent leadership failure could further threaten Nigeria’s cohesion and stability.
He arrived at Obasanjo’s residence in Abeokuta at about 11 a.m. and departed roughly an hour later before proceeding to Minna for his meeting with Babangida.
Obasanjo and Babangida, though non-partisan, are widely regarded as influential elder statesmen who remain deeply interested in Nigeria’s unity and stability, having played defining roles in the country’s political and military history.
Olawepo-Hashim was accompanied on the visits by the chairman of the North Central Renaissance Movement, Professor Nghargbu K’tso, and other aides.
