The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has asked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other relevant bodies to ensure there is a legal framework for full electronic transmission of results during the 2027 general elections.

Addressing newsmen yesterday in Abuja, the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, said the party will not accept any excuse of glitches in the next general elections.

Recall that INEC had acknowledged a glitch affected the seamless operation of its Result Viewing Portal (IReV) during the 2023 presidential election.

The electoral body had also attributed the glitch to the intricate, sensitive, and critical nature of the systems, coupled with the genuine threat of malicious cyber attacks.

But the PDP yesterday asked the commission to immediately put in place clear and unambiguous laws and tackle other technical issues that hindered the full electronic transmission of results during the 2023 elections.

The opposition party explained that a legal framework mandating INEC to transmit results electronically would enhance transparency in the 2027 polls.

“Today, people using private businesses can rely on PoS to make purchases and withdraw cash. Bank ATMs work virtually everywhere in this country, and PoS operates in nearly every location. The volume banks handle at a time is in thousands, if not millions. So the question is, why will an ATM card work in a remote village, but the BVAS system will not? Those are the questions.”
