The member representing the Kebbe/Tambuwal Federal Constituency of Sokoto State, Hon. Abdussamad Dasuki, has announced that he will not seek re-election to the House of Representatives in the 2027 general election.

Dasuki, a former commissioner and one-time member of the Sokoto State House of Assembly, described his decision as a “personal sacrifice” to make room for younger Nigerians to assume leadership roles in governance.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the lawmaker, who is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said his decision aligns with the vision of the Future Is Now Project, a youth inclusion initiative he co-founded to promote greater participation of young people in national leadership.

“After due consultation with my team, our leader, my family, and most importantly, my conscience, I have decided not to seek re-election to the House of Representatives in the 2027 general election.

“This decision is not born out of fatigue or disillusionment, but out of a higher calling, one that transcends ambition or position,” he stated.

Dasuki recalled that during the unveiling of the initiative on October 1, in Abuja, a communiqué was issued calling for 70 per cent of House of Representatives seats to be occupied by Nigerians under the age of 40 in the next general election.

“I am still a youth by all standards, but I have crossed that 40-year threshold we have proposed for the House of Representatives. If we are to inspire the trust and belief of the generation coming after us, then we must be willing to sacrifice. This, my dear constituents, is that sacrifice,” he said.

The lawmaker expressed gratitude to his political mentor and former governor of Sokoto State, Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, whom he credited for discovering and nurturing his political journey.

“None of these achievements would have been possible without the unwavering support of my political mentor and leader, His Excellency, Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal. He saw potential in a young man, supported my political aspirations, and gave me the opportunity to serve in his cabinet,” Dasuki said.

He pledged continued commitment to the development of his constituency and the empowerment of youth and women, stressing that he would remain active in championing policies that promote education, inclusion, and prosperity.

“To the youth of this constituency, Sokoto State, and Nigeria: the time is now! No more waiting, no more excuses, no more silence. Take your place. Stand tall. Lead with courage, integrity, and vision,” he urged.

Dasuki, who has been in public service since 2011, said his decision represents a legacy of selflessness and renewal in Nigerian politics.

“As I step aside, I wish to bequeath a new legacy—one that showcases a crop of leaders who know when to exit, paving the way for a fresher generation,” he added.
