Stakeholders under the umbrella of Human Rights Writers Association (HURIWA) and the Coalition for Good Governance and Change Initiatives (CGGCI), have asked opposition figures in the country to stop distracting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu from delivering on his mandate, saying critics are heating up the polity over the 2027 election.

Addressing a joint press conference on Friday in Abuja, the President of Human Rights Writers Association (HURIWA), Emmanuel Onwubiko, expressed worry that there have been deliberate plots to sabotage the government’s ongoing reforms in the oil and other sectors of the economy.

Daily Trust reports that key opposition leaders including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former governors and other political bigwigs have been aligning to stop Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.

But Onwubiko said, “We want to advise politicians to allow the government to work. They should stop distracting the government. 2027 is still like two years ahead.”

Speaking on issues in the oil sector, Onwubiko, said, “Our appeal is for the NNPCL GMD to ensure consistency in the availability of petroleum products nationwide. Let the NNPCL ensure that this is part of the legacy the President will be remembered for when he eventually completes his tenure and leaves office.”

In his remarks, leader of the Coalition for Good Governance and Change Initiatives (CGGCI), Comrade Okpokwu Ogenyi, asked President Tinubu and key officials of government to be vigilant.

“There has been a deliberate gang up against Mr. President and his people-oriented programmes for the country. The enemies of the country have infiltrated all segments of the economy, with a deliberate act of sabotaging Mr. President by blackmailing key agencies of the administration including the NNPCL.

“These blackmailers seek to reverse the progress made and reinstall individuals who will continue the cycles of corruption that Mr. Ojulari is dismantling,” he said.
