President Bola Tinubu has formally presented Vice President Kashim Shettima with a certificate confirming his nomination as his running mate for the 2027 presidential election.
The presentation followed the confirmation of Shettima by the All Progressives Congress (APC) as Tinubu’s vice-presidential candidate for the next general election.
The development became public on Thursday after the President’s Special Assistant on Social Media, Olusegun Dada, shared a video of the presentation on his social media platforms.
In the video, Shettima was seen arriving at the venue, where he exchanged brief remarks with President Tinubu before the President handed over the certificate confirming his nomination as the APC vice-presidential candidate.
Sharing the video, Dada wrote: “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu presents certificate to Vice President Kashim Shettima as his running mate in 2027 election.”
Dada also reacted to recent speculation regarding Shettima’s position within the administration, insisting that there had never been any uncertainty over the Vice President’s status.
“At no point was the Vice President’s place in this administration under any doubt. People just create scenarios in their head and start cooking,” he said.
The presentation comes a few days after the APC formally endorsed Shettima as Tinubu’s running mate for the 2027 presidential election, putting to rest months of speculation over who would occupy the vice-presidential slot on the party’s ticket.
With the endorsement now concluded, the ruling party has expressed confidence that the Tinubu-Shettima ticket will secure a second term in office at the 2027 presidential election after submitting its nomination forms for onward transmission to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ahead of the stipulated deadline.
The formal presentation of the certificate is seen as part of the APC’s preparations for the 2027 general election as the party moves to complete the processes required for its presidential ticket.
