21 hospitals get N100m free drugs each
Foundation warns the drugs are humanitarian, not for resale
Sir Emeka Offor Foundation this weekend donated N100 million worth of drugs each to 21 hospitals – both federal and state – across the country.
It is the second round of donation of medical equipment and supplies by the foundation to health institutions.
The foundation’s founder Emeka Offor, represented by retired AIG Chris Ezike, said the foundation had a vision to touch lives and improving living conditions of marginalised and impoverished Nigerians.
The donation also comes with a warning that the drugs are not for sale.
“This is a humanitarian intervention in terms of health and must be used for the treatment of poor people without charging them any money,” said Ezike
“When you are making donation and it is free and someone sells them, it is immoral. We are making a caveat that on no account the drugs should be sold to the public. If you sell it to the people, it will hurt us and if we discover that they were sold ,we will make a rethink whether it is right to donate for the poor through the organisations.
“We reiterate that these drugs are donated as a humanitarian gesture and strictly free of charge. They are not to be sold, resold or exchanged for profit or gain. Therefore, they do not have any commercial value as post-donation monitoring team will ensure compliance with the rules of corporate governance,” he said at the handover in Oraifite, Ekwusigo local government area of Anambra state.
