The Association of Housing Corporations of Nigeria (AHCN) has lamented the slow pace of housing development at the subnational adding that 21 states did not execute any single project in 2024
The AHCN made the disclosure through its President and Chairman of Council, Esv. Eno Obongha, at 2024 World Habitat Day celebration with the theme “Engaging Youth to Create A Better Urban Future”
“At the state level however, it is a different story as there is still no significant improvement with little or no responses to the provision of affordable housing in virtually all the states within the last one year.
“Most of the state housing corporations could not execute any tangible housing project this year as many states are still struggling to settle down without definite direction on housing provision.

“There is no doubt that housing is a vital component of economic development and the sector possess great potential as agent of economic recovery if well managed and implemented,” he explained.
A breakdown of the states yet to implement any project according to the data by the AHCN include Abia, Adamawa, Anambra, Bauchi, Bayelsa, Borno, Delta, Ebonyi, Ekiti and Gombe states.
Others are Imo, Katsina, Lagos, Nasarawa, Niger, Ondo, Osun, Plateau, Sokoto, Taraba, Yobe and Zamfara.
The president noted that the states were assessed based on the impacts and activities of the housing corporations in the last twelve months after the last assessment of their activities at 2023 Habitat day.
