Twenty-one suspected cultists and social miscreants have been arrested for allegedly staging an attack on officials of the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit (Taskforce).

The suspects were arrested yesterday at the Ogudu and Ajah areas of the state where the Taskforce men had gone to carry out enforcement duties.

The Taskforce Chairman, Olayinka Egbeyemi, who led the enforcement team, disclosed after the exercise that the 21 suspects were arrested during raids on criminal hideouts at Ogudu and Ajah, as directed by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu.

Egbeyemi said, “During the enforcement exercise, a large number of the miscreants/cultists launched a serious attack on the officers with broken bottles, stones, axes and other dangerous weapons from different spots, including uncompleted buildings.”

He said that officers of the agency, however, stood their ground throughout the attack on them.

Egbeyemi said residents of the areas had complained of the criminal activities of the undesirable elements.

He warned owners of structures harbouring criminal elements to immediately flush them out as government would not hesitate to demolish such structures.

Egbeyemi also disclosed that the agency impounded 78 commercial motorcycles for engaging in illegal activities in the Onipanu, Adekunle and Igbo-Efon areas of the state
